Frequently asked Questions

  • Therapy involves the sharing of sensitive, personal, and private information that may at times require you to push yourself outside of your emotional comfort zone. The outcome of therapy is often positive; however, the level of satisfaction for any individual is not predictable. We will meet to conduct a thorough evaluation to assess whether our practice specialty aligns with your needs. If we find that we are unable to assist you, we will provide you with information on other providers for you to consider.

  • While we are dedicated to supporting our clients, please note that we are a general practice and are not equipped to treat all mental health conditions.

    Our practice focuses on working with clients who battling Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Depression, Postpartum and certain post traumatic stresses (PTSD) symptoms that effect daily life functioning.

    We do not treat serious mental health conditions. Serious Mental Illness (SMI) is a smaller and more severe subset of mental illnesses; SMI is defined as one or more mental, behavioral, or emotional disorder(s) resulting in serious functional impairment, which substantially interferes with or limits one or more major life activities such as major depression, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), panic disorder, certain post traumatic stress (PTSD) and borderline personality disorder (VA).

    If you are experiencing any of these conditions, we encourage you to seek specialized care from a qualified mental health professional who is trained to provide the necessary treatment. We will be happy to guide you to your local comprehensive mental health clinics.

  • We run a paperless office and use an Electronic Health Record (EHR) system called Simple Practice. Simple Practice keeps all data secure and information private with bank-level encryption that is HIPPA compliant.

  • New client can make appointments and payments electronically via the Simple Practice Client Portal. After meeting out team and choosing which therapist you want to see, navigate to the top of the website page and click APPOINTMENTS. Select the therapist you want to see and request your initial evaluation desired date & time. We will email you intake documentation to read and fill out. Out therapist will review your documents and pre-screening questionnaire and if we able to meet your needs we will confirm your appointment for further evaluation.

  • When a client books a Telehealth appointment, they will receive a secure link to create their portal which gives them the ability to also send secure messages. All client are told to download the Simple Practice application to engage in therapy with us.

  • Notify your therapist within 24 hours of your appointment. Late cancellations fee will incur, charges will be made to the card on file. Insurance does not cover this. You will responsible for the fee.

  • Unfortunately no. At this time all of our therapist are only licensed to practice in NY. At the time of our sessions the client has to be physically in NY.

  • We do. We encourage men to reach out and seek therapy.

  • Yes, we believe that everyone can benefit from therapy!

    Although, if you do not have a diagnosis the session would have to be self pay. Insurance companies require us to put down a diagnosis in order to bill.

  • The length of time varies greatly between clients. Our goal is to get you to a place where you are stable, empowered, and consistently applying tools to maintain your freedom.

  • Individual sessions are 53 minutes.

  • All interactions with our therapeutic services, including scheduling of or attendance at appointments, the content of your sessions, progress in counseling, and your records are confidential. You may request in writing that the a therapist release specific information about your counseling to persons you designate.

    Exceptions to Confidentiality:

    Mindful Life Psychotherapy staff works as a team. Your therapist may consult with other therapist staff to provide the best possible care.

    If there is imminent danger of harm to self and/or others, a therapist is legally required to report this information to authorities responsible for ensuring safety.

    New York State law requires therapist & staff who learn of, or strongly suspect, physical or sexual abuse or neglect of any person under 18 years of age must report this information to child protective services.

    During initial assessment therapist will go over this in greater details.

  • We accept HSA/ FSA accounts, and all major credit cards. A credit card on file is required to book an appointment, no appointments can be confirmed if there is no credit card on file or credit card is declining.

  • Yes.

    Our practice thrives on our therapists specialities. We certainly not experts in all areas of Mental Health.

    We stand strongly behind the therapists professional responsibility to refer clients out for specific needs that should be treated by therapists with special training in those areas.

    We only specialize in Generalized Anxiety and Depression that is caused by various life events.

  • LEGAL DOCUMENTATION & FORMS:

    To preserve our therapeutic relationship, our practice does not engage in legal matters, including litigation, custody hearings or agreements, separation or divorce agreements. Any kind of DSS/state/government agencies, and court involvement. We also do not provide the following services/documentation:

    -Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) paperwork

    -Disability documentation

    -Employee Assistance Program (EAP) resources

    -Workers' Compensation forms

    -Emotional Support Animal (ESA) documentation. 

    Our practice also does not provide any support letters or forms for any medical or mental health procedures. This includes documentation for medical treatments, mental health evaluations, or related support. This policy helps us maintain our focus within our scope of practice, preserve the therapeutic relationship, and manage liability considerations. For these needs, please consult with the appropriate external organizations or professionals.

    REPORTS/LETTERS/EVALUATIONS:

    We will only provide a supplemental letter noting your treatment with us which will include our practice info, your start/discharge date, your attendance record and what we are treating you for. We will not provide letters with formal diagnoses to preserve the therapeutic relationship. We will only supply this letter after you have completed at least 6 months of treatment with us. 

    For additional professional services, such as report or letter writing, telephone conversations exceeding 15 minutes, or attendance at meetings outside of session time, a fee of $200 will be charged on a prorated basis. Our billing department will provide a breakdown of these costs. These services are not covered by insurance.
